Enforce traffic laws; maintain traffic flow at accidents; assist accident victims and investigate the cause of accidents. Investigate illegal or suspicious activities; serve warrants, subpoenas, and summons; locate and take individuals into custody on arrest warrants; and complete and maintain reports concerning crimes, incidents, information, traffic accidents, etc. Respond to dispatch calls; mediate disputes; respond to questions, complaints and requests for information/assistance from the public, media, legal and medical staff, various agencies, etc.; administer first aid and CPR; and maintain weapons, vehicle, and equipment.Minimum QualificationsTwo years of college or vocational school; two years work experience as a certified law enforcement officer; two years of active, full-time military experience; four years of military reserve experience; or four years of comparable education and experience. Perform appellate work. Make recommendations on sentences and assist clients with treatment programs, court ordered classes, and counseling. Minimum QualificationsGraduation from an accredited law school. Must have either passed the South Dakota bar examination and be eligible to practice law in the state of South Dakota; or be licensed to practice law in any other state and able to take the next available South Dakota bar examination; or be a recent law school graduate, eligible to sit for the next available South Dakota bar examination. Basic working knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical systems and plumbing installation; technical and operating methods, tools, and equipment used in testing, repairing, and constructing electrical systems and plumbing installations; and of federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical installations, and fixtures. Must work a rotating 'on call' schedule and carry a cell phone or pager to be contacted during that time, and be able to work at all times during the 'on call' schedule and therefore must not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.Preferred QualificationsTechnical training and experience working with HVAC systems highly preferred.
