On 23 Jan 2012 POET and DSM have formed a 50/50 Joint Venture (JV) to commercialize and license cellulosic bio-ethanol: POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels LLC. The JV is constructing a 20-2! 5MGY commercial demonstration plant (Project Liberty) and setting up a licensing organization to license out an integrated technology package.

The strategic objectives of the joint venture are:

  • Commercial demonstration of the production of cellulosic ethanol from corn crop residues on 20 - 25 million gallon scale (Project Liberty), using POET’s process technology and DSM’s yeast and enzyme technology (including on-site manufacturing).
  • Replicate and license the technology to additional plants to be built at the other 26 corn ethanol facilities in POET’s network and license it to other producers in the United States and the rest of the world. The construction of Liberty, capital expenditure of $250 million, recently started and production is scheduled to start-up end of 2013.

SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the! consolidated accounting and financial reporting function of t! he Joint Venture between POET and DSM. Participates in the JV long term strategic business planning and perform regular financial analysis on business performance. On behalf of the JV, will be liaising with external professional parties such as bankers, vendors, auditor and lawyers. The position is also responsible for driving financial best practices and optimizing financial opportunities regarding revenue enhancement and expense management throughout the JV. Will prepare regular reports and presentation on business performance and update to the JV directors.

1. Provides reports and interprets the results of operations to the JV directors.
a. This includes the formulation of accounting policies, the preparation of consolidated and consolidating financial statements and business segment operating data, the coordination of systems and procedures, and special reports as required.
2. Develops budgets and financial operating reports, such as annual plans, quart! erly forecasts, periodic reviews and updates.
3. Compares performance with operating plans and standards.
4. Forecasts short-range and long-range cash requirements and obligations, as a basis for maintaining adequate funds. Maintains cash flow model and advices on funding needs.
5. Prepares financial materials for JV directors and other stakeholders, providing effective access to information for appropriate staff and business partners, and taking the lead in financial best practices. This includes the coordination and management of accounting functions with internal or external financial analysts in order to produce basic financial reports like balance sheets as well as financial modeling to forecast future earnings.
6. Assures protection for the assets of the business through internal controls, and ensuring proper insurance coverage.
7. Monitors credit and collection applications.
8. Establish and lead the budget process in support of the JV busines! s plan.
9. Keeps the JV Directors informed of the entity's performa! nce and provides advice on all financial matters.
10. Executes cash disbursements for payment of JV expenditures in accordance with disbursement and policies.
11. Responsible for the accurate, timely and complete filing of financial reports with regulatory agencies.
12. Responsible for the development and implementation of short and long-term strategic planning and keeping the JV Directors appraised of all significant financial developments.
13. Responsible for building and maintaining business case(s) and various economic analysis in support of the licensing business.
14. Monitors the service level agreement(s) between the JV and members.
15. Monitors performance of direct reports. Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling.
16. Ensures that the JV's management principles, policies, and programs are consistently practiced.
17. Consults with all segments of JV management entities responsible for policy or action.
18. Acts withi! n scope of authority and consistent with JV objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices.
19. Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
20. Keeps abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise.
21. Be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious, about assignments.
22. Ability to manage others including the responsibility of recruitment and performance management for all reporting employees. This may include: interviewing & hiring, performance reviews, goal-setting, disciplinary action, career development.
23. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should demonstra! te the following competencies:
  • Bachelors and/or Master’s! Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting.
  • CPA or CMA certification required
  • 7+ years’ experience in the accounting and finance sector.
Excellent analytical, business intelligence and presentations skills - able to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and develop/present actionable recommendations. · National or multi-regional accounting firm audit experience is preferred but not required
  • Strong experience in both the private and public accounting sectors is preferred but not required
  • Strong GAAP, IFRS and financial reporting technical skills
  • Experience in the preparation of consolidated financial statements
  • Able to analyze, organize, summarize and articulate complex legal and financial information
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting agreements, then implement the relevant provisions of these agreements
  • Working knowledge of automated accounting systems, well-d! eveloped financial analysis capabilities, and demonstrated ability to manage information systems and applications is a requirement.
The candidate must be able to deliver results under tight deadlines. · Sound administrative skills. Well-developed management skillsâ€"principles and people.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and organizational growth.
  • Exceptional computer skills in the operation and functioning of all programs used by the organization, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and the willingness to learn new software applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills, communications skills, the ability to multi-task, and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team.
WORK REQUIREMENTS:
This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Employees will ! be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environmen! ts. This position operates in an office environment. In the office, the employee will work on a personal computer.

Specific physical requirements include:
a. Sitting approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.
b. Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less.

Ability and willingness to travel in US and internationally when required.
