Description: International Development Law Organization (IDLO) is hiring Judicial Ethics Expert (SSD) right now, this position will be situated in South Dakota. Further informations about this position opportunity please read the description below. IDLO is seeking a Judicial Ethics Expert to develop a benchbook on judicial ethics for the Judiciary of South Sudan. The benchbook is envisaged as an easy-refe! rence guide containing laws, rules, regulations, and governing and persuasive case law from South Sudan and the region. Benchbooks promote judicial efficiency by enabling judges to make decisions in accordance with the law without repeatedly looking up the same sections in books, codes or previous court decisions. The benchbook on judicial ethics will complement the two previous benchbooks published by the Judiciary of South Sudan with support from IDLO.

Based on IDLO’s prior experience, the development of the benchbook will take place in close partnership with the Supreme Court of South Sudan and will result in a concise, easy-to-Handle and user-friendly publication (approximately 75 to 100 pages in length), which can easily be referenced by judges and carried along on mobile court missions.

As South Sudan does not yet have a written code or rules of judicial ethics, the judicial ethics benchbook is

expected to reflect standard rules or princip! les of professional conduct for judges from other Common law j! urisdictions. It should also incorporate any rules or principles of professional ethics or behavior that can be discerned from the laws of South Sudan and/or the directives of the Chief Justice, the Supreme Court, or the Judicial Service Commission. In areas where case law examples are lacking, the benchbook should contain hypothetical examples which help to illustrate principles of judicial ethics.
