The UCLA Luskin School would like to hire a Project Manager and Data Scientist to update, curate, advance and disseminate the Berggruen Governance Index. Responsibilities include developing methodological improvements of the Index, expand and update its data base, perform various kinds of quantitative analysis, background research and institutional analysis, report writing and presentations, supervising research staff, coordinating with members of the Luskin School, and initiating and maintaining relations with other relevant Index projects. Background: The Index deepens our understanding of the relationship between democracy, government competence and the provision of public goods. Specifically, the Index evaluates countries on the basis of their quality of political and administrative governance. To do this, the Index disaggregates governance into three key components or indices: democratic accountability, state capacity, and public goods delivery. By virtue of this disaggregation, which sets the Index apart from existing conventional approaches, it offers a detailed and realistic look at the relationship between voice processes, administrative capacities and competences, and public wellbeing.
